The 2011 Slash And Bash Film Festival was held this past weekend in Downtown Topeka, with great success. Hundreds of people attended both days of the fest, with highlights including the Zombie Walk, the outdoor showing of “Aliens” and the short film contest (the entries of which can be seen HERE.)
The administration staff will be hard at work over the next few weeks (after taking a well deserved breather!) combing over the festival and the aspects that worked, along with the ones that didn’t, so that we can present you with an even better festival next time. If you have comments, please give them to us, as feedback is the second most valuable thing our fans can give us. But the first most valuable thing is for you to tell a friend. Like us on Facebook, follow us on twitter, but tell your friends and help us make the next festival even more successful!
Slash And Bash WILL return in October for a double feature event, check back for details! And tell your friends…

This year is the 25th Anniversary of James Cameron’s “Aliens”, so be sure to join us Friday, June 24th downtown Topeka for a special screening of the director’s special edition! If you’ve never seen this iconic film, you owe it to yourself to remedy that. If you’ve only ever seen the theatrical release, you owe it to yourself to come and see the special edition which incorporates a full 17 minutes of additional footage and scenes back into the film. If you’ve never seen it on the BIG SCREEN, you owe it to yourself to NOT MISS THIS!
Local filmmaker Patrick Rea from SenoReality Films will be on hand to present two short films before hand, “Time’s Up Eve” and “Get Off My Porch” followed by a question and answer session. The Break Room will have popcorn as well as a full menu available for good eats. And don’t forget about our “SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT”! Oh, did we mention the Zombie Walk? Friday is shaping up to be a very big evening! So big we’ll have Kansas Avenue closed off between 9th and 10th streets (plan accordingly), don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and prepare for a fun time!!!

4 Teams signed up for the film contest this weekend and were given their top secret criteria which included the following:
- Line of Dialogue. “Game Over, Man!” The required Line of Dialogue must be used verbatim. It may be spoken, sung and/or written. It may be in any language, though if it is unclear that it is the required Line, there must be a translation subtitle.
- Character name: “Adrianne Barbeau” The required person’s name can be mentioned, or a character bearing the name can be named and seen on-screen. (No, you don’t have to get THE Adrianne Barbeau.)
- Prop: “A WU Woman Calendar Model” You will draw/be assigned a WU Woman Calendar Model the night of registration. They must be seen on-screen. (So you’ll have to work within the model’s available times that week.)
- Genre: Since Slash-and Bash is a Horror/Sci-Fi Film Fest, we expect your film to fall into one of those categories.
The teams now have until this coming Sunday at 7pm to turn in a completed short film. The films will be graded by our panels of judges and then shown at the Slash And Bash Film Festival at the end of June.
We wish all the teams good luck, and look forward to seeing their creations!
